Your assumptions

Use figures from GA4, Search Console and your CRM where you can.

From GA4 or Search Console (clicks).

%

By the end of the period. Be conservative.

%

Leads ÷ organic visits.

%

$

Revenue per new customer over the timeframe you care about (e.g. first-year value). Any currency.

How the increase arrives

SEO gains usually build over months. “Gradual” grows from 0 to the full increase by the last month.

Formulas used
  • Extra monthly visits at full effect = visits × increase
  • Additional visits — gradual: visits × increase × (months + 1) ÷ 2 (month m gets m ÷ months of the increase); immediate: visits × increase × months
  • Additional leads = additional visits × conversion rate
  • Additional customers = leads × close rate
  • Additional revenue = customers × average customer value
  • Return = revenue × gross margin (revenue if no margin entered)
  • Total investment = monthly investment × months
  • ROI = (return − investment) ÷ investment
What these numbers mean

Reading the estimate

The calculator answers one question: if organic traffic grew by the amount you entered, and your conversion and close rates stayed the same, what would that growth be worth? It is a way to test whether an SEO budget is proportionate to the opportunity — not a forecast of what SEO will deliver.

A useful exercise is to find the increase at which ROI reaches zero. If that break-even growth looks realistic for your market, the investment is worth exploring. If it would require doubling traffic in three months, it probably is not.

How to use it

  1. Enter current monthly organic visits from GA4 or Search Console.
  2. Enter your real conversion and close rates. If unsure, use the lower end of what you have seen.
  3. Set a traffic increase and period you consider plausible.
  4. Add the monthly SEO cost to see ROI, and a gross margin to base ROI on profit.
  5. Copy the scenario link to share the assumptions with your team.
Assumptions and limitations

What this calculator does not know

  • Traffic growth is an input, not a prediction. Results depend on competition, site history, content and execution. No one can guarantee a specific increase.
  • Conversion rates are held constant. New traffic often converts differently from existing traffic — informational queries convert less; high-intent local and service queries can convert more.
  • Branded and non-branded traffic are mixed. If most current organic visits are brand searches, growth from new non-branded queries may convert at a different rate.
  • Value after the period is ignored. SEO gains often persist after the projection period ends, which this calculation deliberately does not count.
  • Timing of revenue is simplified. Long sales cycles delay revenue beyond the month a lead arrives.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good ROI for SEO?

There is no universal benchmark. Compare the estimated return with alternative uses of the same budget — for example, the cost per lead from paid search in your market.

Where do I find my organic conversion rate?

In GA4, filter sessions by the Organic Search channel and divide key events (such as generate_lead) by sessions. Make sure form and call tracking are set up first.

Why does “gradual” produce fewer visits than “immediately”?

Because in a gradual ramp the increase is only partly in place during early months. It is usually the more realistic option for SEO.

Is the data I enter sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser. If you copy a scenario link, the numbers are stored in that link only.

Should I use revenue or profit?

Profit is the better basis for ROI. Enter a gross margin to switch from revenue to gross profit.
